Default New to GW, mesmer sub question

Hi, I just bought the game a few days ago, I like the look of the mesmer.

My question is pretty simple, are there certain sub classes that are redundant if you're a mesmer? I've sampled the subs and like mesmer/warrior and mesmer/monk.

Most of the stuff about builds on here I don't understand because I don't have most of the skills yet.

It seems most mesmer/monk builds are best suited for pve. I'd like to have a character thats competent at both pvp and pve, will mesmer/monk accomplish this?

yeah it'll work fine. i'd not choose mesmer/warrior. they don't mix so well.

i prefer mesmer/necro but mesmer/ele has some nice options. mesmer/monk would do most anything you would like and later in the game you can change your secondary profession.

this site has a link to all the skills for each profession. reading the skills helped me quite a bit when i first started playing.

Monk secondary has a tendancy to be the popular of the two if you just want healing and focus on using your mesmer skills for interrupting, shutdown, etc. Necro goes well with it if your a minion master since energy is important and mesmer skills can help you steal that energy or create it. As for elemental, you would use more elemental skills and use mesmers energy stealing since elemental spells take a good chunk of energy. Elemental as a secondary takes advantage of mesmers fast casting allowing you to cast heavy damage spells faster than normal.
